Support for Those who Need it Most

Our new partner – Hamelin Trust, is an Essex based Charity, founded 40 years ago by two families raising children with learning disabilities. They wanted to provide life enriching support that was not readily available for families just like them.  

 They want young people and adults with learning disabilities to lead healthy and fulfilling lives; to provide support that allows Mum and Dad to be Mum and Dad.  

Currently the Trust supports around 1,000 disabled people and their family members. They have a variety of different services that meet the individuals’ needs and wants.  

A Forever Home for those who Need Additional Support

In Wickford they run a home for 5 people with profound and multiple disabilities. They support every aspect of their lives from personal care to cooking and eating, taking medication and trips into the local community. They call this wonderful place, the Bungalow.

Jonathan, who is a resident of the bungalow, was always cared for by his mother and father. However, when Jon’s father died three years ago, it was evident that further support was required for his care.

The Bungalow

The Bungalow is a beautiful, warm, welcoming space set in a quiet residential community setting of Wickford. The five-bed purpose built forever home is for young people and adults with severe learning and physical disabilities.

When Sue sadly lost her husband, she knew that she needed additional support to care for Jonathan. So, the Bungalow was a real  lifeline for her.

“I knew I couldn’t carry on without some support, and I was worried about what would happen to Jon if anything happened to me. I feel so lucky to have found the Bungalow at Hamelin Trust as there really is nowhere else like it. The team here are amazing. I love coming to visit Jon at The Bungalow because it is so relaxed, just like being at home – and Jon loves the attention.”
