Andrew’s Win is an Unexpected Bonus!

A Big Win! 

Andrew Allen of Halstead, Essex was amazed when he received a phone call from the make a smile lottery team recently to tell him he had won £1,000 in the draw!  

Mr Allen, who plays make a smile lottery in support of his chosen charity, Colchester & Ipswich Hospitals Charity was really shocked to learn of the news.  

Speaking of his initial reaction, he said: “I have never won anything before, so it was a really good surprise for a Friday. Amazing!” 

Time for an Upgrade 

A few days later, Andrew was paid a visit by a member of the make a smile lottery team to hand deliver his cheque and to talk about his win.  Given the news had time to sink in, he explained what his plans were to spend the winnings on:  

“Home improvements. I have a garage door that doesn’t open so that is at the top of the list. Also got Christmas coming up so will get some nice presents bought for the kids. It’s a real bonus getting this win to help move projects on around my house.” 

A Cause Close to the Heart 

Andrew signed up to the lottery with a make a smile lottery fundraiser whilst visiting his father in hospital. He explained, “My dad was in Colchester a lot and I was there regularly visiting whilst he was unwell. A lady signed us up when we were at the hospital. I wanted to support my local hospital as much as I could. I signed up in August and within 3 months I have been lucky enough to win £1,000 already which is absolutely incredible!” 

So, what would Andrew say to other people considering joining? “Do it! Give it a go! It’s going to a great cause and helps to support the local community. It’s a no brainer to me! Colchester Hospital have really helped my dad out this year and I’m all for it as can support this charity at the same time.”
